GM continues to fight a class action involving engine block heater defects in 2017 – 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500, 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500/5500/6500, and 2017 – 2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500 trucks equipped with a Duramax diesel 6.6.L engine and optional engine block heater designed to help diesel engines start in cold temperatures. The engine block heaters are apparently susceptible to a short circuit at the connection between the engine and the heater cord that can damage the engine components or even lead to a fire.
GM was compelled to address the safety defect with a recall coordinated with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and GM continues to fight a class action lawsuit involving the Silverado and Sierra engine defects. If you purchased or leased a Silverado or Sierra truck in California, California’s lemon law may require GM to repurchase or replace your truck if it has suffered from repeat engine or other concerns.
