Ford Motors Company is recalling over 14,000 2019 – 2020 Ford Fusion Energi Plug-in Hybrid models because a faulty current interrupt device (CID) is sending too much voltage and damaging the battery. As a result, the affected vehicles might get a “Stop Safely Now” warnings and lose power while driving, with a chance that the CID might catch fire under the hood.
Ford is issuing a recall, reference number: 23S33, and will notify owners by mail when a fix is available, free of charge. Fusion Energi Plug-in drivers can also call Ford’s customer service or check the NHTSA website with their VIN number to find out if there are any pending recalls.
In the meantime, the manufacturer is recommending not to plug or charge the affected vehicles. According to NHTSA, there were 7 related fires and more than 250 warranty claims but no injury has been reported so far.
