General Motors is recalling 140,000 Chevy Bolt EVs in the US and Canada because the carpet might catch on fire after an accident.
The recall affects 2017 – 2023 models due to rare instances of exhaust gases from the pretensioner coming in contact with the carpet and igniting a fire after a crash.
Chevy Bolt drivers included in this recall should receive a notice from GM urging them to bring their vehicle to their dealership. In the meantime, they can also check their VIN numbers on the NHTSA website to find out if they are part of this recall. Chevrolet service centers will fix this issue free of charge by installing metal foil along the carpet or a pretensioner cover.
This isn’t good news for Chevy’s electric market, as GM previously recalled 70,000 Bolt EV’s because their batteries could catch fire when parked.
